Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier expresses a strong desire to depart from the club

Kieran Trippier, a defender for Newcastle United, is seeking to depart from the club this month in pursuit of regular first-team playing opportunities.

The 33-year-old England international did not participate as a substitute in the Magpies' 1-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Trippier, who transferred to the club from Atletico Madrid in 2022, currently ranks behind former Southampton full-back Tino Livramento in the right-back hierarchy.

Newcastle prevented Trippier from departing the club in January amid interest from Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabian clubs.

There have been rumors linking Trippier to a move to Everton, where he could reunite with Sean Dyche, who coached him for three years at Burnley.

When questioned about these rumors during a news conference on Thursday, Dyche remarked, "He’s one of many names that has come up here. As if by magic, his name appears when we find ourselves without a right-back."

Everton will be missing full-back Ashley Young for their upcoming match against Tottenham due to his red card received in the recent loss to Brighton.

Trippier, who has earned 54 international caps, was a starter for England in the first six matches of Euro 2024 but was replaced by Luke Shaw for the final.

The former Tottenham player has two years remaining on his contract in the north-east.
